So useful so ultimately saving me time
I have some metal circular needles with strange sizing. They range between 1.5mm and 5.0mm but the sizing on the card they are mounted on range between 6 and 16. I cannot see the size stamped on the needle so as they look very similar to one another I need to differentiate the different sizes. It is easy while they are still in their packets as I can write on the cardboard the size in mm or even the old imperial sizing but once they are out of the packet I have no way of marking the needle. I needed a needle gauge so that I can check that I'm using the correct size of needle to do my tension square before knitting a garment. This gauge has mm on one side and US sizing on the other. There is also a hole drilled through the top of the gauge so I'm going to thread some very fine ribbon through it and tie it onto my knitting needle case so that when I have removed the metal needles from their cardboard holders and put them in my needle case I can measure them accurately before starting to knit the tension square so saving me time and effort. It's bad enough when I find that my tension square doesn't match the tension square of that pattern's knitter but it would be far worse if I had no idea what size my needle was.

A handy item
I found this really handy as I had various needles in various numbers. I made one garment that came out huge and realised the size was for a different make of needles which was probably from many years ago and too thick. NOW I can get the actual size I need which will often be different from what's printed on the needles.

Not fit for purpose
This needle gauge is calibrated in Millimetres one side and US needle sizes the other and is hence totally impractical. To use it you need a print out of a comparison table of metric, US and UK sizes. Someone is taking the Michael selling a US product in the UK market.

I bought two and am glad I can use these alongside the UK needle gauges ...
I have lots of needles and hooks from lots of places - even some made of bone.I have found that some Knitpro needles are a very tight fit in my old gauges. I decided to buy a couple of Knitpro gauges to ensure which sizes they were. These circular gauges look very similar in illustration of some I bought which turned out to be cut-outs made of very strong but very thin plastic sheeting and when I put the Knitpro needles in these thin ones the holes stretched so the older needles were then slack in the holesThis circular Knitpro gauge are made of a 3mm thick plastic that does not bend - not stretching plastic sheeting.Sizes in metric shown on one side and US size on the other - very handy to use your old needles for US knitting patterns which are available quite cheaply for Amazon Kindles.Imperial (our old knitting needle sizes) are not shown.I bought two and am glad I can use these alongside the UK needle gauges I already have.

Brilliant!
This gauge will correctly measure needles up to a UK size 12mm. I tested this on a 4.5mm needle and it was correctly measured! Great if you have needles and you're not sure about the size!
