Light, Funny, Self-Aware
Anna Kendrick perfectly balances self-depreciation, humor, and real-world relatability. The Audible narration is a MUST. Anna’s reading of this book makes it ten times more hilarious and relatable. I hope to see more from her in the future.

Funny read
Anna is just as funny in print as she is on the big screen! My favorite is her story about the kiss that wasn’t supposed to be!

Could have been better
Kind of late to the party with this review but whatever. I've read the hardcover and listened to the audiobook. My review is 3.5 stars so I'll round it up to 4Like Anna, I'm from Maine. We don't have many celebrities that come from our state. That's part of the reason why I'm a fan of hers. So when she wrote a book I decided to buy it. A lot of people are saying she's "too young" to write a book. I think they're half right. The book would've been better had she waited until she retired but at the same time she's had a very abnormal life that's worth telling. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if this book was just an easy money maker for her, just capitalizing on her fameAs for the book, it wasn't bad. A good mixture of personal life and career. I saw some reviews complaining about Anna discussing her sex life and other personal stories. I don't have an issue with it. If you just wanted to hear about her career you could Google it or go through her Wikipedia page. I honestly thought her personal "normal" life was more interesting to hear about. Her upbringing and build up to her Hollywood career was engaging. I'm always interested in how celebrities got to where they are. I applaud Anna for having the courage at 17yrs old to move to Los Angeles by herself without knowing a soul there. Trust me, going from Maine to LA is a culture shock. I would've never been able to handle a move like that at 17.I wished she talked more about the inner workings of Hollywood and what it was like working with actors like George Clooney, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Affleck, etc. She's been in some big productions but doesn't talk much about it. There was a nice passage about dealing with a death in the family while filming Pitch Perfect, which required her to fly to the funeral for a weekend, then fly to Canada to shoot a different movie for a few days, then fly back to Louisiana to film PP. There were other interesting stories like prepping for the Oscars. It's crazy that they had stand ins for Oscar noms and they actual prepared and gave a real speech as if they had won while preparing for the real show. Other stories like performing at the Oscars with Neil Patrick Harris and then quickly hopping on a private jet with Ben Affleck to fly back to GA to film The Accountant was also fascinating to me. She also dropped hints about celebrities becoming "couples" just for the PR. I wish she included more stuff like that.Aside from that, my other complaints would be the book kind of jumped around a bit. It wasn't really in order. For instance, at the end of the book she tells a random story about Buccaneer Days on Catalina Island that took place when she was 21. This was after everything that happened when she was older. Also, the whole chapter dedicated to fake parties she would throw was really random. Definitely should have took that out. My last complaint is she came off as a bit narcissistic at times. I believe she made a joke in the past about it so I guess she knows.Overall, I enjoyed it. Definitely recommend the audiobook, it's only 6 hours so it's a quick listen. Most of it was done while driving. Some people have complained about her voice but it didn't bother me.

I don't know how I came across this book. I've seen only a couple of movies she's in. Maybe the few interviews I've read or seen of Anna suggested she might have written an interesting book? Idk...At any rate, after reading the book sample, I was already hooked. Anna offers an entertaining, informative and humorous look into excerpts from her life.I don't know if I've ever read book that's made me laugh so much or so hard. Of course I normaly read true crime so...(only kidding!)I knocked out this book in only a few days from how entertaining it is.It was interesting to see how a middle class (seemingly introverted) person from Maine transitioned into the big Hollywood scene. What's more interesting is how grounded she seems to have remained. Granted it's her book and she could be a monster in reality : p but I have my doubt's on that.Anna is a very interesting person, seemingly filled with somewhat contradictory personality traits but never hypocritical. Just one example of many, she says herself she is a people pleaser and enjoys following the rules but has a destain for being nice and does not consider herself as such. As well she seems rather rebellious in her own ways. (Scrappy, it's in the title)The degree to which she shares her anxious / neurotic tendencies was bold and balanced with her humour. Her story was incredibly vulnerable at times but never once did I think she was seeking pity. Quite the opposite with the "Here's the truth, take it or leave it" kind of delivery. Again, the humour offered a nice balance and was VERY effective.I think "relatable" might be the best way to describe how Anna comes across in this book. She's donethings that most people will never experience and yet when reading this book, it feels like she's that girl from down the street in a small town.I don't know who I'd specifically recommend this book to but I'd absolutely recommend it!

Can I get you a glass of water?
I approached this with trepidation as autobiographies by people so young can't have much to say. Can they? But I was wrong. Primarily because this isn't an autobiography. But also because Anna has a LOT to say. In interviews and social media, she always comes across as a bit of an oddball, but very perceptive and funny. This piqued my initial interest in the book and it didn't disappoint. Anna's sense of humour comes across very well (it made me actually laugh out loud a few times!) and makes the book very engaging. She retells her stories with an informal frankness. And she departs lessons to readers without preaching. The book doesn't read like an autobiography but instead like a collection of memories from somebody who feels undeserving of what they have achieved. It feels as though the writing of this book was something of a cathartic release for Anna and her candid approach works very well. I'd recommend this book to young girls especially because Anna approaches a lot of issues they may face with brutal honesty and advice. What's abundantly clear throughout the book is that Anna's a hard worker who deserves her fame. She's brilliantly talented and doesn't give up. As a result, she's unwittingly an ideal role model for young girls today. The one detail that made me laugh was Anna's reading list throughout the book is pretty dark: The Rise of the 3rd Reich, Charles Manson's autobiography, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and The Shining...As a collection of memories and experiences, the book works well. The book does lose it's pace towards the end and feels almost like Anna had to rush to finish it or added filler. I think she recognises this herself in the chapter detailing the boat trip. Irrespective, it was a great read.I'm close to giving it 5 stars, but in case Anna ever stumbles across this review I don't want it to go to her head and think she nailed it on the first go.

Must read!
Honestly best autobiography type book I have read. No sugar coated rubbish, as well as sharing her journey from theatre to movies Anna writes about things you really wouldn't expect and it's extremely refreshing. I would also advise any fan if you're weird, maybe feel like you don't fit in, feel like you're on your own etc READ IT, you will realise your thoughts that you should probably keep to yourself Anna has them too and writes them down! I read to escape my own head, just take a glimpse into someone else's life for a few days, I was a bit gutted to have finished the book so quickly but I really needed it, and appreciate everything she wrote in the book, made me feel my weirdness is perfectly fine and it is. I look forward to the next book when Anna is 70 ;) Hope she titles it "The crazy got out" or something like that.

Authentic and witty
This is authentically Anna's voice, telling a genuine narrative about aspects of her life. I like that she is so honest, witty and open, even when it might not flatter her to tell it how it was. I also enjoyed how grounded she seems about the cost of living, the uncertainty of being cast in the next thing and how ephemeral fame can be. She is reflective and insightful, and I felt like I got a good insight into what it is like to be an actor, but also to understand her relationships, values and sense of humour. She spends a fair bit of the book expressing her bafflement about celebrity culture and expectations, which made me feel like she is my kind of person, but I felt that sense of connection even more so when she is talking about her refreshingly low key sex-positive feminism, body-consciousness and using the ocasional swear word. All told it is an engaging and real autobiography, that contrasts with the reams of polished, ghost-written and preachy biogs that are out there. If you like her twitter, and/or the characters she plays in films then you'll probably like this. It was a genuinely enjoyable and engaging read. I was stuck for an hour in my car on a cold day before an appointment at the passport office, and from the moment I picked up this book it went in such a flash I was almost late!

realistic humorous biography
I loved this scrappy gritty realistic self deprecating humorous autobiography of Anna Kendrick from her determined youth in theatre to being a famous movie star and reluctant adult. I truly connected with so many of her stories about waiting for the shoe to drop or not feeling like a proper adult, her awkward years and it’s great seeing the parts I can’t even dream if, from the Oscar’s to filming hit shows to making budget movies with minimal cast. She’s not afraid to put embarrassing stories and still maintains the loveable quirky personality that she exudes on the screen (I mean in the interviews I’ve seen her in) this book just makes her more relatable and likeable

5 out of 5, great read
Very rare that I give a book 5 out of 5, but if Anna Kendrick ever gets tired of acting I think she has a very good chance of jumping into a new career as I writer. I'm not a big reader of biographies or autobiographies but this one struck me as appearing quite humourous and I was right. This is not just a book about acting or trying to get into acting. It deals with so much more. The stress of growing up, the anxieties that many teenagers face, drinking, availability of drugs and I think ultimately something most of us seek long into adulthood, who we are and where do we belong.I couldn't put it down and laughed and smiled the whole way through. Anna shows the pressures on family and herself from childhood acting all the way to her current hollywood status but in an entertaining and relatable way.
