Better than the anime.
First of all I watched the anime of this series and while I thought it was good I thought it was over rated too.I must say the manga is really good. I thought that it was better than the anime. The manga is a series of 4 panel comic strips that loosely tie together. The manga is really funny and the characters are colourfull and interesting highschool girls. The comedy is largely down to its own sheer randomness. This manga would be perfect to keep on your coffee table and flick through when you are bored. The art is a bit cheap as you'd expect from a four panel. If you liked the anime I'm sure you would like this too even though the story is the same.Overall it gets a 5/5 from me. Really good.

A fun & random manga
I have heard `Lucky Star' described as a series about nothing and what it basically boils down to is four schoolgirls talking about random topics. The funny thing is though, that despite this the series is still extremely fun and compulsive to read. The series is made up of a number of four panel strips which tie together to form a number of, very, loose storylines and while they may be somewhat random in places they are still highly enjoyable. This series definitely isn't for everyone though and I would probably say that you would be better off reading this once you know the franchise and know what to expect from it.I did have a few issues with this first volumes translation as, although generally good, there are some moments at the beginning of the volume where it isn't really done all that well, although this is just my opinion and it does get better as the volume goes on as well. This volume also includes some translation notes in the back as well.Overall this was a very entertaining first volume and I will definitely be reading the following volumes.

Good but sadly not better than the anime
This is a very unique manga. It may be one of those rare occasions were the anime is better than the manga but don't let that stop you it's a very good time killer and it does contain a very lose storry that you will only start to notice around the forth volium. If you are a hordcore anime manga fan that loves deep plots then don't pick this up, it's more for anime and manga fans willing to try something new.

4-Panel Gag Comedy At Its Finest!
A friend introduced me to the LS anime; and I was excited to hear that the manga was finally going to be released stateside. The anime was constructed by 4-panel comic artwork; it's actually quite interesting to see what was pulled from the manga and what was extended for the anime. Book and video are two completely different forms of entertainment; I just don't comprehend how anyone can compare them... like novel-to-film, etcetera. You almost have to love both for their entertainment value; the 3D anime brings a 2D manga art form to life and expands on it; so "Yes", it could be considered 'better', however -- there's hidden gems still left in the manga, and the book is historical and your brain fills in the missing parts between the panels quite easily. I chuckled and laughed throughout the book; cannot wait for the next installments.

Lucky Star Manga, now on Kindle.
I really am glad that these books are becoming available through the Kindle, as the long out-of-print copies, especially if you want them new can cost a freaking ton of money. A really charming slice-of-life series of manga (comic style) books center mainly on four high school girls named Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa and Miyuki. Each have their very own and distinctive personalities and are really fun characters to follow in their day-to-day lives. I was originally introduced to this series though the anime by the same name. In all honesty I've not had much exposure to anime and manga, so I can't really compare this to much other genres of manga, but if you like slice-of-life comedy, I certainly feel I can recommend them.

4コマ漫画なので、英語の小説を読むのが、かったるくなった時などに、読むのに適しているような気がします。日本語版が好きな人は、このシリーズで英語の勉強を始めてみては?
