Worth Every Single Penny
I know it may be hard to swallow: $50 for a pepper grinder! I mean... That can sound silly.Well... After buying this, I don't think you will buy another one... Ever... This looks very well-made and sturdy. The quality is quite astonishing, actually. The wood feels nice and smooth, the mechanics look simple and not easy to break, and the, dare-I-say: "Brass" knob at the top is very, very nice and heavy. All that to say that: Yes, is it expensive and pretty? You bet...BUT...It gets even better. The grinder as settings at the bottom that are SUPER EASY to read and change. It's literally on the side of the pepper grinder. There are 6 settings in total from fine to coarse grinds.IT'S AWESOMESo, yes, do you still kind of think that this is expensive? YES, but it's SO worth it.This totally looks like an heirloom, like a good Le Creuset Pot, or something. I mean...This would make a great present for a wedding, a housewarming party, or simple to your best friend who likes cooking (DO IT. I wish someone had done that for me... Kim, I hope you're reading this. :P Wink-Wink for the future. I may need one for white pepper after all, hummmmmk.).Great buy! :P

Expensive, but very nice!
It’s a Peugeot so quality is assured. I love the grind setting. It'll last my forever.A little disappointed that sample pepper was not included.

Poor quality and doesn't live up to its name
We got this12-inch pepper grinder in Nov of 2020. I had had one and used it for nearly 20 years until it finally died. So we replaced it with this. However, it only worked until August 2021. It no longer works at all. It does not grind according to the grinder choices of size of grind. It just spins or it grinds a little bit and then stops. This is NOT the quality Peugeot product of old. I do not recommend it.

Does not mill. My unit was USED not new!
First off, the unit I got did not grind any better than my ages old $5 grocery store pepper mill. It did not work well on any setting with any peppercorns - including uniformly sized corns exactly as recommended by the company. It arrived having been USED and returned. Perhaps it was a defective unit from the start, or someone wrecked it and returned it. It frequently needed a great deal of shaking to get any grinding to occur at all. It did not give a good coarse grind even on the coarsest setting AND with the knob on top loose. What was good? It looks nice. It has an internal support for the rod down the center. If it had worked, I would have loved it. I have purchased a Unicorn from Amazon which grinds an absolutely insane amount of pepper per 1/4 turn and works wonderfully. I wish the Unicorn looked as nice at this one, but I need a grinder not a decoration.

Best Peppermill
This is a quality product from the experts at making pepper mills. It is made in France and the grinding mechanism is lifetime guaranteed. This company has been around since the 1800s and obviously knows its mechanisms won't fail. It is made of solid wood and works like a charm. The u-select feature works really well at allowing you to select your grind from fine to coarse. I am really not sure why there are any negative reviews. Do people not read directions? The pamphlet clearly states that the pepper corns have to be less than 5 mm in size for it to work. I would recommend, as another prior reviewer does, Costco's Tellicherry peppercorns. These are the real deal from India and are superb. You can find places online and in stores that also sell these, but you get a much better deal from Costco. Also, when grinding, only a clockwise motion should be used. Maybe other users are grinding clockwise and counterclockwise, which should not be done with this mill.

Very consistent grind, beautiful, but..
Not only does this pepper mill look great, but it grinds out pepper consistently. Unlike other pepper mills I have used in the past, when I ask for course I get course and when I ask for fine I get fine. The bottom of the mill turns and there are easy-to-read lines to tell you what the setting is.The reason I give this only 4 stars is that you have to shake it once in a while. That's right - shake it. The peppercorns get stuck and you have to shake the mill in an up and down motion to loosen them and then it will grind properly again. I've tried a few different size peppercorns and nothing seems to help. It's not that big of a deal once you get used to it, but it does make the mill a bit of a pain to use sometimes.

12 inch in a Classic Chocolate. Wonderful
I am so glad I ordered the 12 inch Chocolate pepper grinder. Color is wonderful!I returned the graphite and the 9inch!The 12inch is not only longer, the thickness and quality are far superior and feels better in your hands than the 9inch.On the U select model, you have to hold it above the "U select" portion on the neck/belly and the 9 inch is not enough room. Your hands will be cramped with anything less than the 12"
