My View of the World

If you want an easy bedtime story go elsewhwere, but if you get value listening to a great mind think deeply about things, and are open to ideas that aren't your own, Schrödinger is first rate

One of the last of the 'complete and rounded' scientists, Schrödinger was a brilliant physicist who understood that "exact" science is only an illusion, "reality" is an empty term, and metaphysics is a necessity in order to progress intellectually. What a shame we seem to have none of those anymore, at least none who are able to speak up without being vilified by their colleagues, as reductionists - the fundamentalists amongst the scientific community - tolerate no disagreement. His reasoning is beautiful and compact, so I found necessary to read it more slowly than I normally would, rereading paragraphs and often reading only a chapter at a time in order to appreciate it fully. I hemmed and hawed for quite some time before purchasing this book, as it is quite expensive, but it is an excellent book and recommend it very highly.

I gave it 4 stars because I'm sure the author knew what he was talking about. With that said, for about 50% of the book I found myself saying, 'What the hell is he trying to say?'

Excellent book, I’m so glad it was recommended

The author, Erwin Schrodinger, was one of the great minds of the 20th century. He was one of the giants who pioneered quantum mechanics. He won the Nobel prize for his wave theory. In addition he made valuable contributions to the knowledge of how the human mind works and the real nature of consciousness, In this book, the reader can see the way he thought, Although he traced the source of his beliefs back thousands of years,he expressed them here in modern easy to understand terms.

This might be the most interesting book I've ever read. Schrodinger was a brilliant person and it shows through in his work.

Sorry for reviews who gave one star. They didn't understand a profound wisdom, not for everyone with one dimensional flat thinking.

Very archaic discussion, I was expecting more

If you're interesting in theology and philosophy, then this author should be someone who you're familiar with. If not, it's time to discover him. Popularised in many people's mind by the Cat Theory, he proposes parallel universes and all possibilities existing simultaneously. This is just one theory and there's more theories within theories and plenty more. There's a certain seemingly pretentious style to his writing similar to Freud, but it's comprehensible enough. Recommended!

Bold attempt of Nobel laureate to explain limitations of pure sciences and at same time utility of metaphysics to fill those limitations. A very balanced book.

Excellent book! Must read

A very interesting text incorporating views on evolution, consciousness and Eastern mysticism. Worth reading without doubt.
