This book and the previous one is an essential reading to students of past and present geopolitics. Previous wars and conflicts have by large been dictated by 'hateful' competition for resources between countries in such a way militarilly stronger countries will eventually win on 'unfavaourable' Trade with the weaker countries-Unfair Trade! The stronger countries emphasize their 'democratic values, their way of life, rule of law, and their national interests' to justify these perpetual wars against weaker countries. These two books by Peter Frankopan (The Silk Roads) seem to have caught 'ready handed' the hypocrisy of these militarilly powerful nations who hide behind the above slogans. These two Books are not novels but academic books that require the Reader's attention to detail. To begin with, I would suggest the Staff of the so called 'Think Tanks' of various countries should read these two books so that they do not get caught 'ready handed' by the public in the future. These Staff are not knowledgeable or skilled but employed to regurgitate to the public what is already kown for centuries-The Silk Roads are here to stay but could lead to extinction of humanity and human civilisation if these 'Think Tanks' are allowed to influence militarilly stronger countries to start and maintain destuctive wars! The two Books are very well written and referenced so that readers can check the facts for themselves. Global Stability has never been accomplished or sustained from the middle ages throughout to the current security situations in many amny nations of the world. The UN Security Council is powerless just as the previous League of Nations in maintaining world peace. The Silk Roads still exist and are bitterly being fought over!
