GDB Pocket Reference: Debugging Quickly & Painlessly with GDB

This book is useless without the GDB manual.
I am a big fan of Arnold Robbins' books. More specifically his vi and awk books. This book, however, is useless on its own. One is left guessing as to the correct syntax for commands since no examples are given. An example is forward-search. It takes a regex as an argument but the reader is left wonder what that regex syntax looks like. Is it standard UNIX regex delimited by forward slashes? Is the syntax unique to gdb? This book has potential to be great but will require significant content to be added in the appropriate places.

It is consice and informative
It covers enough information to debug. It is short, so read once, you may find some new functions. I am using this with Kindle DX.

The free GDB Quick Reference is more useful
In my opinion, the GDB quick reference that you can download for free is more useful. To go over the basics, this book is OK, but for daily lookup purposes, the quick reference is more useful.I purchased this book as a "filler" to reach over $25 for free shipping. I'm a software engineer and do use GDB frequently.

Nothing more than a Pocket Reference
It's nothing more than a Pocket Reference – yes, I know, it's in the description. But there is so much more you can include in a Pocket Reference book, including information from the "apropos" command, a few images and perhaps something more reference-able .

Not only does it list/explain all commands alphabetically (except those for remote debugging), it also groups commands by topic, e.g. what are all the commands related to breakpoints, what are all commands related to examining data. etc.

What's not to like?
Very good pocket reference that actually fits into a pocket. This improved my command line GDB skills no end and now sits at the front of my book case.

Nice to have
Obviously it's a pocket reference, so its format is somewhat limited. However, I wish that there was also a single table listing all the commands per category. This way it's spread throughout the book which makes it harder than necessary to find what you need, when you need it.

Esperaba más
Aunque sea una guía de bolsillo esperaba ejemplos. La guía es casi un chuletario que sólo sirve para recordarte lo que ya sabes.
