Great converter
Great build quality of the unit and it just does what it is suggested to. No problem with sound quality at all. If you don't have enough coax or optical Jack's on you pre Amp or AV receiver this works great. I used it for long runs in a home theater with one on on each end and run and rca spdif cable between them and works awsome

TV with no optical port? Get this!
Used this to connect an optical port to a TV that doesn't have one and it works flawlessly with my Samsung sound bar/wireless sub and even passes the sound from my XBOX Series S through the TV to the soundbar set. It did exactly what I wanted it to do.

Clean at first, then over time degrades and causes audio glitches
I got this converter several months ago. When new, it sounded and measured clean. Lately it started acting up. Nothing obvious, but the very occasional 'tic' when listening to music, as if it's losing sync. Measuring it with Room EQ Wizard it's obvious. A frequency sweep distortion plot shows giant glitches of distortion. It still works, and the glitches are not obvious to casual listening. I suppose that's why it's so highly rated here.

It works for a little while
Uses a crappy micro USB plug That became unsoldered just by the heat of normal use.

It does what it supposed to do, and have sturdy metal case, impressive for the money.
What "volume control", it does not have one :).It does what it supposed to do, and have sturdy metal case, impressive for the money. Able to connect professional monitors digitally, avoiding unnecessary analog to digital conversion. Sounds impressive, actually makes difference.

Loose optical slot
Got too much wiggle from the optical hole. It was tough to get in the first time, and i didnt get any sound. Turned out if i put pressure on the cable in one direction it worked but only with real precise amount of pressure. I believe the optical port was just a bad port, out of spec in terms of where the reciever was in the back of the port and the dimensions of the port its self. To much crackle, couldnt let go of it and get sound.
