These are SMOKED. Make sure you know that.
So "chipotle" are basically just dried and smoked Jalapenos. But be aware that these are SMOKED. Like, a lot. I gave it five stars because the quality wasn't bad at all, they arrived quickly, and you get exactly what you pay for. However, I ultimately had to give them to a friend as the smoky flavor was a little TOO overwhelming for my palette. I buy a lot of peppers, and even have numerous other bags of chipotle, and these are by far the most smoky ones I've ever had.If you're really looking for a strong smoky punch to add to your food, you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for something a little more tame in the smoke department, you might want to give these a pass.

Authentic - Perfect for adding Smoke & Heat to any dish.
This type of Chipotle is extremely SMOKEY!!! I use this in stews, Gumbo or any other dish that I want smoke. Take a jalepeno pepper and smoke it until there is nothing left but a toughened skin (like paper-thin leather) impregnated with smoke. Unlike other type of Chipotle, these pepper will not rehydrate or disintegrate during cooking. They are used purely for flavor... remove the pepper husk before serving/eating the dish. This makes everything that much better!!!

Crispy
The bag I received had a hole in it and these chiles were quite dried out and crispy, not supple and leathery as I like my dried Chiles to be (I interpret this condition as an indicator of freshness). The flavor is still okay, and the seller resolved my complaint to my satisfaction.

Real Meco Chipotles At A Good Price
These chipotles are just what they should be; dry without being 'crisp', whole, well smoked and sealed in a bag. Hey, how can you beat half a pound of Meco chipotles for about eleven bucks? The aroma is enough to make my stomach start grumbling and wanting to find something to make with them.I use 'em in soups, rice n beans, I grind 'em into a fine powder (homemade chipotle chili powder), stems, seeds and all, and mix it with some mayonnaise (I add a couple of Morita chipotles for color) and use it on just about EVERYTHING. If you like smokey sweetness with just a touch of heat, these are for you.I've ordered from 1400s before, so I expected good quality at a good price, and I was not disappointed! The resealable plastic bag is a nice touch, but the star of the show, as it should be, is the product... These chipotles do not disappoint!

Disappointment
These peppers smell musty and smokey and they have no flavor or spice. I had to thrhow them all away after reconstituting them and grinding them for powder.

Great low burn chili pepper
Really grooving on this ingredient. Soak it or slow cook in water to soften. Chop and or blend in salsa, curry, single pan dishes. Versatile and can work with other flavors.

The Smoky flavor is different
I normally buy my Chipotles at Mexican markets in California and they come in a small bag so I was pleased to see this great deal. However I'm disappointed because the flavor of the smokiness is different from 100% of the Chipotles that I've bought for the past 20 years in Mexican grocery stores. I don't know why that is but it just doesn't taste the same. The peppers themselves other than that seem fresh enough - I mean, they're dried. But the flavor doesn't work for me and I will go back to buying the "grocery store" Mexican flavor Chipotles even though they're pricey. It's possible that the flavor of this product is authentic! Maybe they're from a different part of Mexico or something. I suspect that they're smoked either by a different process or with a different kind of wood. So that's my personal opinion about their flavor. But every time I take them out to use them it's disappointing so I thought I would make a note of that here, but I still encourage people to try them. Everyone's sense of taste is different.
