Smooth & Fruits Light Roast Coffee – Nice But Pricey
We Are Coffee Co’s 227g Bag Ethiopian Basha Bekele Whole Beans arrive in a standard 227g sized typically retail looking, branded but rather colourful bag. Looking over the bag I could not see any mention of the roasting or bagging date just a best before date which is not really what you want from coffee, however we pressed on and ground a portion of the coffee using a fairly coarse setting. Once the coffee was ground we proceeded to make a pot and try it out...this was a bit of an eye opener. The coffee has a nice fruity aroma and this is borne out by the taste which certainly carries fruity notes in a rather smooth in - as the packaging states - a light roast. This is certainly tasty but the downside if that it is almost a third more in terms of the price of some good coffees from a local marketplace coffee roaster. We did actually buy another bag to try a different blend, and that too was very nice – but it would have to be an occasional treat rather than a daily go to coffee.

Fruity hints
Coffee taste is very personal and i was a bit worried about these after reading some of the initial reviews but i found these coffee beans to be lovely quality and taste very nice indeed. They are a 100% single source Arabica which are my favourite type of bean and come from Ethiopia, although roasted in the UK.Used in my bean to cup machine, absolutely no issue with using them, smells lovely freshly ground although they are weaker than my usual beans, i prefer a medium to dark roast coffee so even on the strongest grind setting i got a satisfactory cup but required less milk. This coffee is really pleasant though, smooth and tasty with some subtle fruity hints.Small 227g bag which fills my machine up once and lasts us around a week or two, depending on consumption. This bag was £7.99 (at the time of order) which works out over £35 per kilo and about 3x what i usually pay so for me, the value is poor. The bulk pack works out slightly cheaper but still over double what i usually pay. This is nice coffee though, i recommend it but i probably wouldn’t buy it again because i prefer a stronger bean.

Pricey but nice
Great tasting coffee, grinds very well and tastes greatThe flavour tones are accurate, especially the strawberry jam, I really got a hit of strawberry with itIt is quite expensive though, they are offering bigger bags at £24.99 per kg which is into the premium coffee market, and I'm not quite sure it's there

Great coffee but no roasting date on bag. Pot luck
I was pleasantly surprised with this coffee. I definitely had a relatively fresh roast sent to me, however the roast date was not printed on the bag. It just says 'best before' and a date over a year from now. It would be stale long before that. However, mine was fresh and I brewed it in the aeropress and also chemex. It was a lovely smooth taste that was much better than I was expecting. They have thrown a lot of different flavour notes on the packaging however don't expect all those. It will vary a lot depending on your brewing technique, so experiment to try and get different flavours. No complaints here, other than not having a precise roast date on the pack. I would like to know before I open it exactly how long its been waiting on the shelf. As I say though, I could tell mine had been roasted within a few weeks.

Lovely if you like a light roast, fruity coffee
There's nothing like freshly ground coffee beans as the smell is to die for! I have a little electric grinder so whizzed some of the beans up in preparation to use in my coffee machine. These are light roast so not one I would usually purchase as a medium or dark roast is my usual go-to.The taste of this coffee was definitely a little different from my other ones with an almost fruity undertone. It is not as strong as I'd like as I really do like a strong almost bitter coffee but that is just my personal taste. We've had this every morning for the past week and although I think it's a nice coffee, I'm not sure it is entirely my cup of...erm coffee. I would, however, definitely try a stronger coffee from this brand as I'd be interested to see how it compares. 4/5

Subtly different, surprisingly fruity coffee
Exotic coffee tasting notes are sometimes a bit laughable, and I feel quite plebian when pointing out that what the coffee really tastes like is just coffee. So when I saw the tasting notes here were “pineapple, mango, strawberry jam, red plum”, I braced myself for another ordinary-tasting coffee with an over-reaching marketing department.I was in for a surprise though, because there really is something different about this coffee, and for once, I can confidently tell it apart from our previous bags. The aroma is decidedly fruity, and there really are notes that make me think of red berry compotes, blackberries even, with a little bit of sugar. It’s decidedly sweet-smelling, before any actual sugar has gone anywhere near it. This scent also fuses well with, and is consistent with, the flavour as you drink it.The bag describes it as a light roast, and that’s certainly true. It doesn’t make a lot of colour, and the flavour doesn’t have the serious kick to it that others can. The aroma, lovely though it is, is decidedly mild and doesn’t compete with any other strong food smells that might be around while you’re drinking it. Adding milk, which can sometimes reveal and open up details in other coffee scents, here seems to just bury the scent somewhat and make the coffee a little more ordinary overall. The “We Are Coffee” brand seems to be a trading name for the rather boringly named company “UK Health Supplements Ltd” from Bolton. I certainly don’t think there’s anything especially healthy about this coffee compared to others, but it’s in the flavour and particularly the aroma that this is, for once, a coffee that really is just that little bit different. If I could give half stars, I’d have been tempted to give four-and-a-half stars. I’m tipping it down to four for a slightly arbitrary reason- the lack of any reassurance that I can see on the packaging about the fair trade credentials of the product. Hopefully it does have some, but they’re not listed- and I hope that’s not a sign that it falls short in that department. But if you like light roasts and sweeter smells, I’d definitely recommend it.
