Surprising seal wear and phantom cistern filling problem solved
Nov 2023 update: 3 years later. The same phantom flushing from our En-Suite Loo returned! At least I known what the issue was. Would have thought the value would have lasted more than 3 years. But at £4 not a big deal. Took longer to write this review than it did to change the valve. This valve was clear rather than black. I’m selling the house in a few months so it’ll be my last replacement :-)Sept 2020: Our En-suite loo had phantom refilling of the cistern for months. Thought it was something to do with the fill mechanism. But then when I cleaned the loo and used some coloured bleach in the bowl I noticed a small stream of water coming down the pan. That made me realise there was a slow water leak. This why the cistern was randomly refilling. Inspection of the black seal revealed the problem. You can see from the photo, the wear of the old seal laid over the fitted new seal. Quite a lot of wear over 8.5years the toilet was installed.New seal came quickly and a day faster than estimated. Easy to fit. Instructions are supplied.Top job.

Fix the leak
Fitted easy but there was still a very slight leak in the toilet pan. Settled down after a few weeks so I would still give it 5 stars.

DIfferent colour, but appears to work.
As title. Not sure how long it will last, as it doesn't appear to be a like for like replacement, but seems ok for now.

FixTheBog!, Well It surely does the job!
Sorry for the pun, but this really does do just that.It was simple and straight forward process to remove the offending worn/disintegrating original and this new replacement fitted perfectly. The whole installation took only a few minutes and required no tools to accomplish (Other than for the marigold gloves!) and gave us a perfect fully restored flush.Tip: Push down slightly while turning the stem to gain access to the seal (To avoid breaking off the plastic retainer/stop and do the same when refitting).Afterwards, you might say we were flush with our success :-)

Cheap fix
Easy to fix. Remove old part, clean and replace with new part. Thought I’d got it wrong because toilet leaked at first . But just the rubber bedding in. Working fine, two months no problem.saves a bill not having to pay a plumber

Original manufacturer part does the job
This is about £10 as it an original part not a pattern part. Some one said to me I can get a new complete valve for that price. I know lets just all create plastic waste shall we. This did the job. Dont forget to clean the seal mating surface which this assembly clicks into. Mine leaked a bit until I did that. Now doesnt leak.

Ideal
Replaced the old brittle and broken seal in 5 mins. Hardest part was getting the old clip off. New one fits perfectly and the seal has stopped the leak, ideal.

Poor long term performance
We are currently having to replace this seal every 6-8 months on average which for a genuine original manufacture product is too often. Works perfectly when initially changed but doesn’t last. A nice cash cow for Ideal Standard but apart from changing the whole mechanism what choice do you have.
