Vic FirthDrumstick, Natural, inch (SHM3)

I have a ton of Vic Firth sticks of various weights/lengths/intended uses. This model (the Harvey Mason) and Jojo Mayer's signature stick are 2 of my "desert island" sticks. There's something about the specs that make these two models just a real joy to play and makes me feel more in control of note placement vs., say, a 5A or 5B. Placebo? Maybe. When I practice pad work and switch from a 5A (or anything really) to Harvey Mason or Jojo Mayer, it feels like a profound effect in controlability vs. the opposite direction.Note that there's an older version of the stick where it's more of a dark stain vs. a brown paint, which is what this newer version seems to be. I think I like the stain more from a style point, but I'm a big fan of painted sticks for a more tacky feel; so, I don't care from a usability standpoint.The quality is what I've come to expect from Vic Firth (that is to say, perfection with high durability), so it's barely worth mentioning. I've never had a Vic Firth outright break on me, and I've only had a tip chip once. I can't say the same for Zildjian.

Been using these sticks since the mid-80's, still my favorite......Great for Rock, Jazz, Blues, etc. NICE cross stick sound! A little bummed that they changed the color, no longer dark brown, but blonde works.

I made my students in my middle school band purchase these as part of their regular inventory and supplies. They love them and because the shaft is a little smaller than the SD1 they have an easier time using them in the beginning. Also great for set and concert band setting.
