Keeps my thyroid function correct
I was worried about not consuming enough iodine for proper thyroid function. Was starting to lean hypothyroid. I don't eat table salt and that's the place most Americans are getting their iodine. Also vegan so I'm not eating animal sources. This has been a perfect fix for me. Of course I keep an eye on thyroid function with my doctor and regular blood work. My physician was a little skeptical when I wanted to try this before a pharmaceutical approach. But I do a lot of research and was open to the pharmaceutical approach if this wouldn't have worked. Iodine is important for lots of bodily function. This is an organic natural food substance not an extract or supplement. Not medical advise just personal journey.

Now Kelp
What I like about Now supplements, including this Kelp is that they're third party tested. This has a huge amount of iodine for such a small amount. Great for adding to raw cat food for iodine instead of using low sodium salt. Kelp is good for a cats dental health too and they don't even notice the taste.

GREAT SEASONING
I have used kelp for years as a thyroid supplement, but now use it as a seasoning. I put this in a pepper shaker & shake it over foods such as eggs, fish, potatoes, macaroni. Although I have used the little scoop to add it to vegetable broth & soup. Both kelp & dulse (which I have also reviewed) have many health benefits & have many vitamins & trace elements & minerals in them which you can research about online. This product is a finer powder than other kelp I have used as a seasoning, but it still works & tastes great. This is product is economical & one of the brands recommended on other sites. Iodine is an important supplement for the thyroid & some say that a low functioning thyroid is too common today, as is iodine intake in people on low salt diets. I do not use iodized table salt, but a wonderful, mild (non-peppered) seasoning salt called Herbamare (available on amazon also) that has sea salt in it. Sea salt does not have as much iodine as iodized table salt. Actually, the latest research indicated that a low salt diet in healthy people actually increases the risk of heart disease. Unfortunately, I have seen the results of this in someone paranoid about salt her whole life, had low sodium intake & blood levels & now has heart disease even though it did not run in her family (no, no diabetes, hypertension or high cholesterol either). Lowering CARBS can actually decrease blood pressure & swelling in some people. But, I digress. Hard to Find Tiny Scoop In Large Bottle
The product seems fine, but the scoop is so small I had to remove all the contents which makes a mess. It is a very light, fly away powder. Before I did that, I thought there was no scoop, so I took too much of the product- not realizing how tiny the scoop is. Why don't they say on the bottle to take 1/16th teaspoon or even less - hard to tell the correct amount without the tiny scoop? If we can't find the scoop (Bottle is large) scoop is tiny, they need to find another way for us to find the scoop and to know how much to take before we poison ourselves. Too much iodine is not good for the body.

Perfect for 65 lb Dog
I trust all the NOW brand supplements for our dog’s supplement needs. The 325mcg capsules are the perfect daily amount for our 65 lb dog. I also use other NOW supplements for her like the Vitamin E Oil, Milk Thistle, Hawthorn, UC-II, & CoQ10.

There's a very tiny scoop inside because you can take too much if not careful
But before I found the scoop, I was using 1/2 tsp in my 16-ounce daily smoothie which was wayyyy too much.I finally found the scoop and it is super tiny. Actually two scoops will almost fill a 1/16th teaspoon.I have thyroid nodules so I have to be careful and not use too much but really I wanted the other benefits of the kelp, the vitamins and minerals, but since I have to limit it, not sure I'm actually getting anything besides Iodine.I put this in my green smoothie and cannot taste it at all. I had another brand which smelled really fishy so I like the Now brand better.
