Clean water on trips
We bought these for our daughter's when they went on a trip. (We usually take bottled water or 1 gallon jugs of our filtered water when we go on trips.) We decided to try these & they worked beautifully. They didn't have any trouble with them leaking. We are very happy with our purchase. We did have a little bit of trouble getting the straws off the filters so we could wash them. I had to very carefully inch the plastic off of the stem of the filter, it was very tight.(Since they are identical I personalized them.)

Berkey is great for traveling and filtering water.
I have had a Berkey sports bottle for a year now. I bought to take on a week long cruise. The best way to get great water without loading cases of bottled water on the ship. Now I just bought two more for my daughters We are traveling to the UK for two weeks. The best way to get the water in and not worry about contaminants.

This bottle leaks like a sieve. THIS BOTTLE SUCKS, DON'T BUY!
I can't see the straw lasting very long the way it has to be pinched off. In addition, you have to suck so hard to get water you'll have lines around your lips before you are 30. When drinking, you have to suck with all your might or squeeze while you are sucking and get water all over you while you are sucking. While the filter gets 10 stars, Berkey is faaar from getting anything for this over rated bottle design. Very dissapointed in this company. Save your $50 and wait for a re-design.

Excellent!
Filters better then most home systems. Brought with us on our trip to Hawaii and saved a ton of money on bottled water (which contains micro plastic particles...). Used to filter the "plastic" water on the plane as well. Slightly hard to draw on, but not a big deal. Love it.

Not what hoped for
The straw won’t fully open so it’s really hard to get the water sucked up it. It’s like the top doesn’t flip back far enough to uncrimp the straw. I have a Big Berkey and love it, and was hoping to use this when not at home. We bought 2 and hate them.As a future recommendation— Would be helpful to have the ounces printed on it with lines for tracking water intake.

Great All-Purpose Filtration System
This is a great portable water filtration system. Uses the same filtration as larger Berkey filters, just a smaller capacity. Unlike some competitors, this filter will remove (most) viruses, bacteria, protozoa, harmful chemicals and heavy metals - in one unit. Some other filtration systems may remove bacteria, but not viruses, or some chemicals, but not heavy metals. This unit does it all. The other advantage of this design is that you can squeeze water through the straw - allowing you to provide clean water to pets, or fill up your teacup with pure water, unlike systems that require you to just drink through the straw. Suction through the straw requires little effort, and is similar to comparable self-contained filter bottles. It's relatively compact, to fit in a backpack or cup holder, and - in my two purchased units - absolutely does not leak when inverted, and will not shatter if dropped. The filter is easily replaceable and is sufficient for several gallons of filtered water, depending on the source. The design covers the straw from dust and external contamination when not in use, and allows easy transportation with a carry ring suitable for a carabiner or lanyard. What's not to like? Well, nothing is perfect (although this system still merits five stars because of its universal utility). The construction is almost semi-disposable - lightweight (which is also a plus) - but maybe a little too lightweight, almost like a trade show giveaway. Longevity remains to be seen, but it doesn't feel particularly heavy duty. The drinking arrangement works, and again water can be squeezed into a cup, but he closure is essentially just pinching the straw to prevent water coming out (which it doesn't in my units, so it works), but looks like it might loosen over time. But taking it for what it is, you can be confident taking your bottle to the Amazon River Basin (or anywhere else on the planet) and having clean, contaminant-free, good tasting water to drink, from virtually any source. It's relatively inexpensive, comparable to similar products that don't do as much, lightweight, easily transported when full, and good for multiple uses. To be fair, and for me, if it's good for a half-dozen or so trips into the wild and prevents a major water-borne disease or infection, or poisoning with toxic chemicals, it's worth the price of admission to just replace it when needed. Highly recommended.

Look at the photo!!!
I bought this to do some filtration experiments in my preschool classroom for our International Space Station Center...... however if it really worked I wanted one for myself!! I hate drinking tap water......Well as for the filtering.... the picture tells all. The science teacher was cleaning soil sample containers and I took her nasty dirty water (obviously on the left)..... then I squeezed the bottle and look what came out!!! I figured it would be a bit cloudy.... but now.... it was crystal clean!!!!!!
